Traffic flaggers are seen holding "STOP" and "SLOW" signals

Washington State Flagger Certification & PEVO Training Course

Controlling traffic through work areas is one of the most important — and dangerous — operations in construction maintenance. Our flagger training course is a comprehensive skill-building session that meets federal industry guidelines: the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines and the ANSI standard ISEA-107-1999. The Office of Highway Safety, the Federal Highway Administration, and several state Departments of Transportation have reviewed this program. It also meets requirements for the Washington Administration Code (WAC) for Signaling and Flagger's WAC 296-155-305.

Course Length: 6-8 hour initial course | 4-6 hour refresher (cards must not be expired)

What you can expect during this course

The primary objectives of the program are to train flaggers to provide safe passage of traffic through and around work areas and to minimize confusion by bringing standard flagging procedures to our nation's highways. It is our goal to get your crew members trained and certified in safe flagging techniques in just four hours. This course is a must for novice construction work zone flaggers in both one and two-person flagging operations. Experienced flaggers can attend this course as a refresher.

This course provides training for individuals to become certified flaggers in Washington State, covering safe traffic control practices, the proper use of flagging equipment, and the responsibilities of flaggers and PEVOs (Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operators) in managing road construction or maintenance zones.
The course is required for workers who will be performing flagging duties or operating pilot/escort vehicles in Washington State to ensure compliance with state traffic control regulations and worker safety standards.

Yes, each student that successfully completes the course and exam will receive a Flagger's Certification Card that is valid for three years and a Flagger's Manual, which is a terrific reference guide.
